THE FIFTH MEETING: MAKING DELICIOUS DESERT AND SING
Last July 22, 2012 we conducted our fifth meeting. As usual, we divided the class into two groups; older group and younger group. In this meeting, the older group was assigned to be able to understand a procedural text that was shown by their ability in following the instruction given. The procedural text given to the kids was an intruction to make a delcious desert. We named the desert “rolling ball” cookie; as its shape is like little balls. Furthermore, those little balls are rolled on the rice chocolate.
In order to have an effective teaching, the older group was divided into four little groups. Each group was given a procedural text on making rolling ball cookies. The kids enjoyed the activities so much as they had chance to be a chef and taste their own cooking at the end of the lesson. The recipe of making rolling ball cookies is as follow:
Materials: biscuits, creamy milk, and rice chocolate
Steps; (1) Grind the biscuits until they become powder like, (2) Add some creamy milk and mix them until it can be formed into little balls, (3) Make little balls from the dough you have made, (4) Prepare the rice chocolate on a different plate, (5) Roll the little balls you have made on the rice chocolate prepared, (6) Serve your rolling ball cookies.
Furthermore, for the younger group, the activity engaged was recognizing their part of body. The kids were introduced to English name for part of body. As the kids could memorize the names in English and pronounce them well, they were invited to sing and dance in order to strengthen their memory. Then, they were assigned to name parts of body shown on the picture prepared.
At the end of the lesson all of the kids were invited to break their fasting together. We already prepared some foods and cookies for the kids.
PS: As at the moment is Ramadhan month, we have the class in the evening.
